Prime Minister Andy Burnham showed off his table tennis skills during a visit to a community centre in his constituency.
Mr Burnham dropped in to Platt Bridge Community Centre on Saturday, and joined in activities run by organisations there.
They included Wigan TTC, with Mr Burnham playing against 11-year-old Alan Wu and older players at the club’s regular Saturday morning session.
He also chatted with participants and club officials, including Wigan TTC Vice Chair and Lead Coach Paul Clark.
Paul said the visit was a thank you to the community centre, where Mr Burnham had held clinics and had an office during his election campaign for the Makerfield constituency earlier this year.
“I did a bit of coaching with him and he played a couple of the kids and older ladies,” said Paul.
“He was very welcoming to people, shook hands with everyone and posed for a few selfies, and signed a table tennis bat.
“I think he enjoyed his time with us and the other organisations – there was a dance session on afterwards and he stayed for that.
“I tried to get him to come along to our normal session on a Wednesday but I think he’ll be a bit busy!”
Mr Burnham also met Age UK Wigan Borough’s Engagement Officer Steve Rowe, who is well known for his AerobicTT channel and who chatted with the Prime Minister about his work with older people and with Parkinson’s patients, creating opportunities for movement, social connection and fun.
