As 12th seed, Green (WR 130) had a bye through the first round and faces Spain’s Diego Lillo (WR 191) in the last 32.
After being edged out 11-9 in the first game, the Englishman took control and was never behind in the next three games as he completed a 3-1 (9-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7) victory to set up a last-16 clash against fifth seed Lubomir Pistej (WR 87) of Slovakia on Thursday at 11.20am UK time (T2).
It was a day of deciding games for Green in the two doubles competitions. In the Men’s, he & Martin Buch of Denmark went out in the first round to Patrick Dziuba & Milosz Sawczak of Poland.
The Polish pair took the first, but Green & Buch levelled by taking the second 11-7, having been 4-0 down and then 7-4 up. Seven points in a row at the start of the third saw Dziuba & Sawczak pull clear to restore their lead.
The match really came to life in the fourth, where Green & Buch saved three match points at 10-7, missed two game points and then saved another match point before finally taking the game 15-13.
The decider saw their opponents lead 8-4, but Green & Buch hit back to 8-8 and then save two match points at 10-9 and 11-10. They had a chance of their own to take the match, but missed it, and the Poles clinched it on their next opportunity, 14-12.
In the Mixed, Green & Lin Qian Ser of Singapore (pictured above) took on Poland’s Mateusz Zalewski & Katarzyna Wegrzyn in the first round and after taking the first two games, saw their opponents hit back to level, despite Green & Ser saving four game points before losing the third 12-10.
In the decider, Green & Ser led 6-2 but trailed 7-6, but they were not behind again from that point, going on to take their second match point at 12-10.
In the quarter-finals, it was familiar opponents for Ser as they took on her compatriots Izaac Quek & Ming Ying Loy.
Green & Ser led 1-0, trailed 2-1 and levelled by taking the fourth 11-9, but Quek & Loy came from 8-4 down to lead 9-8 in the decider, which they took 11-9 on their first match point.
