Anna Hursey will defend one of the two titles she won last year at this season’s edition of the European Under-21 Championships, while Connor Green and Hannah Silcock also go in search of medals.

Wales and GB’s Hursey won both the Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles in 2025, the latter alongside Mia Greisel of Germany. The pair went on to win World Youth Championships gold.

However, with Griesel not competing this year, Hursey will focus on defending the singles title – she is top seed – as well as aiming to add a medal in the Mixed Doubles.

In the latter, she will compete alongside Romania’s Iulian Chirita, with whom she won World Youth Championships silver last year. The pair surprisingly went out in the Round of 32 at last year’s edition of the Europeans.

Meanwhile, Green is eighth seed in the Men’s Singles and will feel well-placed to go beyond the last-16 stage he reached last year, where he was defeated by Romania’s Darius Movileanu.

Movileanu is one of three Romanians among the top eight seeds this year, with Chirita at No 1 as he compete for gold on multiple fronts.

In the doubles, Green lines up with Mael Van Dessel of Luxembourg. It is the same pairing as last year, when they just missed a medal by reaching the quarter-finals, losing to Chirita & Andrei Istrate.

Green also has a chance in the Mixed, where he forms an eye-catching pair with Veronika Matiunina of Ukraine, the second seed in the Women’s Singles.

Jersey’s Silcock will also compete on three fronts. She is ranked No 35 of the 56 players in the Girls’ Singles field, while she lines up with Elinor Davidov of Israel in the Women’s Doubles and Pert Marten Lehtlaan of Estonia in the Mixed.

The European Under-21 Championships takes place in Cluj Napoca, Romania, from Wednesday 17 to Sunday 21 June.
