Tianer Yu was edged out by Lee Haelin of South Korea at WTT Youth Contender Metz in France.

Yu, ranked No 51 on the world Junior list, drew Lee (WR 82) in the round of 32 in the Under-19 Girls Singles. After losing the first 11-5, Yu hit back to take the second 11-9 and the remainder of the match was close, Lee taking the third 14-12 and fourth 11-9 to progress to the last 16.

Yu earlier defeated Jersey’s Hannah Silcock in the fifth in the group stage. Silcock (WT 169) still progressed to the knockout stage and has gone on to reach the quarter-finals with 3-0 wins over Renata Shypsha (WR 151) of Spain and Manon Loth (WR 159) of Italy. She plays China’s Xu Huiyao in the quarters on Thursday afternoon.

Aarav Parihar (pictured above, photo by Michael Loveder) was competing in the Under-15 and Under-17 Boys’ Singles and qualified for the main draw in the younger age group, going out in the round of 32 to Zhang Heliang of China.

In the Under-19 Mixed Doubles, Yu was competing alongside Axel Bossis of France but went out in the first round, 3-1 (11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9) to Dario Salcedo & Renata Shypsha of Spain.

Silcock, with Aaron Sahr, of Luxembourg, went out to Luca Khidasheli & Irina Gimeno of Spain at the same stage.
