Tianer Yu reached the Under-19 Girls’ Singles quarter-finals at WTT Youth Contender Havirov in Czechia.

The England No 2, ranked 46 on the world Junior list and seeded fifth for this tournament, breezed through her group.

She then had to dig deep in the Round of 32 before getting past Emilia Twardawa (WR 523) of Poland 3-2 (7-11, 9-11, 11-3, 12-10, 14-12).

Yu found the going easier against Irina Gimeno of Spain (WR 116), winning in four to set up a quarter-final against Jiang Yiyi (WR 110) of China. Although she won the second game to level the match, Jiang gained control and won the next two to end Yu’s interest in the competition.

Yu next moves on to the WTT Feeder Berlin, before competing at the Mark Bates Ltd Senior National Championships in Nottingham, starting on Friday 20 March.
