It was the veterans’ week on the Isle of Wight from 13-20 February, with the Over-60s and Over-70s tournaments and the same two players winning these events as last year.

First it was the Over-70s tournament, and another good contest with some excellent play from the Island’s “golden oldies”, who love the sport and still play competitively.

In the semi-finals, Tim Giles beat Peter Clarke and Rob Smith beat Trevor Jones. Tim then beat Rob to retain the trophy that he won last year.

Inevitably, there were more entries for the Over-60s event, and it was no surprise that Paul Rainford easily won this event for the second year in succession.

Paul represents the IoW in the Senior British Clubs League and is one of the Island’s top players. He beat Spike Hughes in the first semi-final and Rob Smith beat Bryce Wilson in the second semi. Paul then beat Rob in the final.

The Association appreciates the commitment of Rob Smith for organising the two tournaments. Despite doing this and co-ordinating the schedule for both events, he still managed to reach the final of both tournaments.
