GB’s Anna Hursey is on the threshold of entering the world’s top 50 for the first time after her superb performance at the China Smash.
The Welsh teenager has climbed 22 places in the latest world rankings list to stand at No 54.
It follows her run to the last 32 in Beijing, winning three qualifying rounds and then beating world No 56 Jieni Shao of Portugal in the first round.
Her run ended at the hands of world No 4 Kuai Man, though Hursey pushed her close in a 3-0 (11-9, 11-9, 12-10) defeat.
Hursey is next in action at the European Team Championships in Croatia, which start on Sunday, as Wales attempt to qualify for next year’s World Championships in London.
She will then feature at the WTT Star Contender London at the Copper Box from 21 October. Click here to buy tickets.
