I was contacted recently by the BBC who asked me what is the oldest table tennis club in England was?
I had no real idea about this to be honest but here is my ‘google’ search answers.
Did you know the Bristol & District Table Tennis League, founded in May 1902, is officially the world’s oldest ongoing table tennis league? Still active today with hundreds of members across multiple divisions, it represents the very soul of grassroots TT in the UK.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., the Southern Indiana Table Tennis Association (SITTA)—established in 1935—stands as the oldest continuously operating, dedicated table tennis club in America.
And if you’re keen on club history, Wycombe House Sports & Social Club in West London has been around since 1888, with table tennis among its long-standing activities.
So here’s my challenge for you:
What is the oldest table tennis club or league in your county? Share your stories with me [email protected] whether it’s a century-old league or a beloved community hall where players still gather.
By the time you read this it maybe too late to apply but keep this in mind for next year!
