Abraham Sellado was simply flawless as he won the Under-15 Boys’ Singles at the Europe Youth Series event in Osijek, Croatia.
The Halifax youngster won 15 out of 15 singles matches across the singles and team events as he topped the singles podium.
In a competition which featured most of the top European youngsters, fourth seed Sellado got through his group without dropping a game and then beat opponents from Czechia and Slovenia to reach the quarter-finals.
There, he edged out sixth seed Onur Guluzade of Azerbaijan 13-11 in the fifth, and his semi-final also went to five as he defeated Mateusz Wisniewski of Poland 3-2 (13-11, 8-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-8).
Sellado faced third seed Jan Mrugala, also of Poland, in the final, and he completed his unbeaten tournament with a 3-1 (11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-7) victory.
Kacper Piwowar, seeded seventh, reached the last 16, where he was defeated 3-2 (7-11, 8-11, 11-5, 14-12, 11-5) by Alexander Malov of Spain – Piwowar had three match points in the fourth game.
In the Under-15 Boys’ Doubles, Sellado & Piwowar were the second seeds and reached the semi-finals with few alarms. They were defeated in three by Polish pair Mrugala & Wisniewski, who went on to win silver, but it meant a bronze medal for the English pair.

In the Under-15 Mixed Team competition, Piwowar and Sellado teamed up with Anastasija Vujovic and Mia Zivanovic of Montenegro.
The English boys won two singles matches apiece to get the team off to a winning start against Serbia.
It was a 5-4 scoreline overall as the Serbia side battled back to level the tie four times after going behind. Piwowar won the deciding match 3-1 (10-12, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5) against Branko Dragoljevic.
Earlier, Piwowar & Anastasija Vujovic won the opening doubles 3-2 (11-3, 8-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-7) against David Capanda & Teodora Sudzum.
In the singles, Sellado beat Dragoljevic and Capanda, both in three games, while Piwowar’s other victory was in four against Capanda. The four girls’ singles matches involving Vujovic and Mia Zivanovic were all won by Serbia.
The English boys also picked up maximum success in the second match, which was a 7-2 win over a Denmark/Croatia team, with Vujovic also winning twice.
Some of the matches were close, with Piwowar & Vujovic winning the doubles 3-2 (9-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-5, 11-5), Sellado defeating Malik Sverinsen 3-2 (9-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-5, 11-6) and Piwowar overcoming Sverinsen 3-2 (11-4, 10-12, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9).
In the first play-off for positions 1-8, the opponents were a strong Romanian team, and they won 5-1. Sellado provided the high spot for England/Montenegro by defeating Raul Creucu 3-1 (8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-3), which reduced the deficit to 2-1 overall.
The team when face Sweden II in the 5-8 bracket and suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat.
After going 2-0 down, Sellado beat Albin Ingestrom 3-1 (11-8, 11-5, 5-11, 12-10) and then, with the deficit at 3-2, Piwowar beat Vidar Larsson 3-1 (11-6, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8).
With Vujovic contributing a win, Sellado then beat Larrson 8, 7, 7 to put England/Montenegro 4-3 ahead, but defeats for Zivanovic and then Piwowar, who lost 3-1 (9-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-4) to Ingestrom, meant overall defeat.
The team finished on a high with a 5-2 win over Azerbaijan to claim seventh place, with Piwowar picking up two singles wins to go with two for Vujovic and the two combining to win the opening doubles.
