Jakub Piwowar narrowly failed to match his brother Kacper’s feat as he was defeated in the final of the under-15 boys’ singles at the WTT Youth Contender Tunis.

Kacper yesterday took gold in the under-13 boys’ event and Jakub (pictured above) stormed through the group and early knockout matches, losing only one game in the process, to earn a chance of emulating that achievement.

But French player Flavio Mourier proved too strong in the final, though not before Jakub had shown his fighting qualities in the third game before he was beaten 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 17-15).

Kacper was also competing in the under-15s and he won his group to go into the knockouts, where he was defeated by the host nation’s Firas Chaieb in the last 16.

10-year-old Theo Kniep won all three of his group matches to reach the semi-finals of the under-11 boys’ singles.

There, he had a tough encounter against Youself Alhawai of the UAE, who edged through in four (18-16, 11-6, 6-11, 14-12).

In the under-19s, Connor Green and Toby Ellis both reached the last 16, where they were beaten – in Green’s case by the same opponent who defeated him in the under-17 semi-finals, though this time it went to a deciding game before Milhane Jellouli won it.

Louis Price and Ben Piggott went out in the group stage.
