Hannah Saunders reached the semi-finals at the WTT Youth Contender Szombathely in Hungary, while there were knockout places for Tianer Yu and Sienna Jetha.

Saunders (pictured above with coach Kelly Sibley) won all three group matches in the Under-11 Girls’ Singles to earn a bye into the last four, where she was defeated in four games by host nation player Izabell Ivanics.

Yu and Jetha both went through in two age groups. Yu won all three matches in the Under-19 Girls’ Singles, but was then defeated in the last 32 by Josephina Neumann of Germany, who is ranked two places above her at No 110 in the junior world rankings.

In the under-17s, Yu went through as a group winner, while Jetha was a runner-up. Jetha went out in the round of 64 to a higher-ranked Spanish player, while Yu went on to the last 16 thanks to a good win over world No 99 Adela Sazimova (CZE) in the last 32. Her run was ended by world No 75 Clea De Stoppeleire of France in the last 16.

Jetha also went through in the under-15s as a group runner-up, but went out in the last 32 to lower-ranked Rebeka Nagy of the host nation.

Saunders went out in the group stage of the under-13s, winning one and losing three of her matches, though three of the four went to a deciding game.

Sophie Earley was due to compete in the under-17s and under-19s but unfortunately had to withdraw through illness.
