MP Dr Kieran Mullan praised the standard and dedication of young players at Table Tennis Rother when he dropped in to one of the club’s sessions.

The Conservative MP for Bexhill in Sussex joined a session at Pebsham Community Hub after being invited by local councillor Gareth Delaney.

Table Tennis Rother holds junior sessions every Friday during term time and Dr Mullan met young players, their families and club volunteers – and picked up a bat to join in.

The MP also helped hand out attendance certificates to a number of dedicated young players, recognising their commitment to the club.

Dr Mullan said: “I enjoyed having a go myself and was impressed by the standard of play and the dedication shown by the club’s members.

“It was particularly inspiring to meet a young player who has attended 157 sessions. That level of commitment says a great deal about both the individual and the welcoming atmosphere that the club has created.

“Parents and carers spoke very positively about the benefits the club brings, from helping children make friends outside school to learning new skills and staying active. Clubs like this are a real asset to our community.”

The club is run by Kevin J Haffenden, Head Coach for Table Tennis Rother, and also runs a senior session every Friday morning from 10.30am to 11.30am, welcoming players of all abilities.

Kevin said: “We were delighted to welcome Kieran to the club and give him the opportunity to see first-hand the positive impact table tennis can have on young people.

“Our junior members work hard, support one another and have great fun each week, and it was fantastic to see their commitment recognised through the attendance awards.”
