Tom Jarvis picked up useful world ranking points by reaching the last 16 of the WTT Star Contender Sao Jose dos Campos in Brazil, but found world No 16 Darko Jorgic a step too far.
Jarvis, the 16th seed, had a bye through the first round and was handed a tie against Ibrahima Diaw, now representing Denmark, in the round of 32.
The English No 1 was only behind after the first two points of the match as he took the first two games 11-6 and 11-9. Diaw, who saved two game points in the second, blitzed through the third 11-3, including a run of six successive points from 5-3.
Jarvis led the fourth 6-0 but saw Diaw fight back to trail 9-8 and then save two match points – but Jarvis took his third opportunity.
That put him through to face fourth seed Jorgic, of Slovenia, in the last 16, and although Jarvis led early in both games one and two, he was unable to get on the board and Jorgic finished with the fluorish of five successive points to complete a 3-0 (7, 6, 5) victory.
Jarvis picks up 115 world ranking points as he looks to climb from No 51 in the world and into the top 50 ahead of the Europe Smash in Sweden next month.
