Tianer Yu picked up a good win at the Europe Youth Smash, before being knocked out by the eventual champion from China.

Yu was the fourth-ranked player in the group stage of the event, played alongside the Europe Smash in Malmo, Sweden and with the format of first to seven points takes the game.

In her first match, Yu – No 74 on the world junior rankings list – defeated Chen Chi-Yun (WR 18) of Chinese Taipei 4-2, taking the first two games and then regaining the initiative after her opponent had levelled.

Yu then missed out in a decider to Leana Hochart of France (WR 46) before losing in six games to sixth seed Jiang Yiyi of China, the world No 12, meaning she did not reach the knockout stage.

Jiang went on to win the competition, not dropping more than one game in any of her knockout matches and having two whitewash 7-0 games in the final against world No 3 Miku Matsushima of Japan.
