Jose Ransome’s support for equality in table tennis will continue to leave a legacy as a result of a fund being established in her name.
Ormesby Table Tennis Club and Table Tennis England will jointly administer the fund, which will raise money to help the women and girls’ side of the sport.
Jose, a former Chair of the English Table Tennis Women & Girls Committee, passed away peacefully in hospital on 20 May, aged 92. Click here to read her obituary.
Among many other achievements in the sport, Jose as committee chair was responsible for the introduction of the Women’s British League (now British Clubs League), making the aims of the fund particularly appropriate.
The fund, set up at the suggestion of Jose’s family members in Canada, will use an existing crowdfunding programme which was used to assist with the Ormesby club’s facility development.
A service to celebrate the life of Jose was held at St Cuthbert’s Church, Church Lane, Ormesby, Middlesbrough, TS7 9AU on Friday 12 June at 1pm, prior to burial in St Cuthbert’s churchyard.
Following the service, an additional celebration of the life and achievements of Jose was held at Ormesby Table Tennis Club, Cargo Fleet Lane, Middlesbrough, TS3 8PB.
