The Senior BCL Premier Division returned with a fantastic opening weekend of action that saw the hosts, BATTS, take an early lead at the top of the table. They lead last year’s champions, Ormesby, on a better ‘sets for’ record, whilst newcomers DHS Hurricane Kingsway sit in third after a very promising opening weekend. 

Round 1

The Round 1 action kicked off with some huge clashes and there were two contests that were both sealed by the narrowest of margins.
It was a 4-3 victory for Fusion over North Ayrshire, a repeat of last year’s opening round fixture and scoreline. A topsy turvy encounter saw Fusion’s Larry Trumpauskas and Rikuto Morota put the South London side ahead, before a doubles victory for Billy Shilton and Martin Johnson over father son duo Lorestas & Larry Trumpauskas saw the Scottish side lead 3-2. Lorestas levelled up the score when he defeated Joe Mulhern 3-0, and Morota sealed the victory with a 3-0 victory over Shilton. 

One of the youngest sides in BCL Premier history, eBaTT, whose squad of Leon Vlasov, Nahom Asgedom, Max Radiven and Kacper Piwowar had a combined age of 71, got off to winning ways defeating 2022/23 champions, Ormeau, 4-3. Ormeau’s Spaniard, Oriol Monzo, took a double and combined with Peadar Sheridan to take the doubles. eBaTT’s key four victories came courtesy of 3-0 victories for Asgedom over Sheridan, Vlasov over Adam Faulkner and 3-1 wins for Piwowar over Faulkner and Leon Vlasov over Sheridan, the latter sealing the win with a 15-13, 11-4, 11-13, 11-7 victory. 

The hosts got off to a quick start as they showed their class in a demolition job over newcomers Nottingham TTC, 7-0. The first four fixtures all courtesy of a routine 3-0 victory. BATTS’ new international star, Edouard Valanet, made it 5-0 and rounded off a perfect debut with two from two as he dispatched Maxim Stevens 3-1. Isaac Kingham’s 3-2 victory over Adam Dennison was the closest contest in this fixture. 

The first live streamed fixture of the season was contested between newcomers DHS Hurriance Kingsway and the reigning champions Ormesby TTC. The reigning champions were pushed throughout despite always leading in this 5-2 victory. Frenchman Guillaume Alcayde levelled the scores at 1-1 for the newcomers, before Mendes & McBeath combined as usual to prevail in the doubles. Alcayde also defeated David McBeath 3-1, before Mendes secured the victory for Ormesby by overcoming Matthew Dodds. Ben Piggott came out on top 12-10 in the decider over former Sheffield Hallam University teammate, Joe Sawyer. Watch the match back below.

Round 2

In Round 2, Fusion were on the wrong side of a 4-3 scoreline as another impressive double for Guillaume Alcayde over Shaquille Webb-Dixon and Larry Trumpauskas helped newcomers DHS Hurricane Kingsway claim their first victory. Joe Sawyer also took two impressive 3-0 victories over both Trumpauskas’. Fusion’s three came from Webb-Dixon’s win over Matt Dodds and Lorestas’ 3-2 comeback also over Dodds, combined with the doubles. 

It was the hosts BATTS, who came out 4-3 victors over eBaTT in the ‘battle of the bats’ as Kingham’s 3-0 win over Leon Vlasov saw BATTS secure victory within the first four matches. Valanet experienced his first defeat on British soil at the hands of Nahom Asgedom 3-0 and Max Radiven got his first Premier Division victory – a 12-10 in the decider win over England teammate Kingham in the final match. 

Northern Ireland beat Scotland as Ormeau defeated North Ayrshire 5-2. Johnson’s 3-0 win over Faulkner put the Scots ahead before Monzo hit back 3-0 against Mulhern. A doubles win for North Ayrshire and Peadar Sheridan’s victory over Shilton meant the match was poised at 2-2, before Monzo and Faulkner both came out 3-2 winners over Johnson and Shilton respectively.

Ormesby were back to dominating ways as they whitewashed newcomers Nottingham despite two early close contests to start the fixture. Ben Piggott saw off Adam Dennison from 2-0 down, before Enio Mendes also sealed his own comeback victory 13–11 against Adam Fuzes. 

Round 3

Sunday’s action saw BATTS add yet another 7-0 victory to their tally as they beat North Ayrshire comfortably on home soil. In match two, it took five sets before English youth talent, Abraham Sellado, was able to come out on top against Martin Johnson. 

As the two newly promoted sides, DHS Hurricane Kingsway and Nottingham TTC, went head to head, it was the Sheffield-based Hurricane side that came out on top 6-1. James Hobson recorded his first Premier victory over Gary Dodd in three straight to give Nottingham their only victory. Alcayde maintained his 100% record, whilst Gary Dodd recovered from his first match of the season loss to defeat Adam Dennison 3-2. 

eBaTT were only able to take the doubles in their clash against Ormesby as the North East club took the points with a 6-1 victory. Ben Piggott added two fifth set victories as he overcame Asgedom in the fifth and also Kacper Piwowar in the final fixture of the match. 

Fusion claimed their second win of the season with a dominant 6-1 win over Ormeau. Webb-Dixon withstood a comeback from Oriol Monzo to put Fusion ahead, claiming the decider 11-8. Sheridan recorded Ormeau’s only win as he defeated Lorestas Trumpauskas 12-10 in the fifth, before it was back to winning ways for Fusion where Larry defeated Monzo 3-1, followed by three straight victories for Webb-Dixon and Lorestas over Sheridan and Faulkner. 

Round 4

Reigning champions, Ormesby TTC, were pushed all the way to a decider by North Ayrshire, where Enio Mendes’ 3-0 win over Mulhern in match seven gave Ormesby the win. Johnson put the Scottish side ahead, defeating Ben Piggott 3-1, before Ormesby were put in the lead by McBeath who defeated Johnson in three. Paralympic medallist, Billy Shilton, forced the decider with a too- close-to-call thriller – 12-10 in the fifth over his Sheffield training partner, Piggott. 

BATTS rounded off a fantastic first weekend with yet another 7-0 victory, this time over Fusion. Phillippines national team member and South East Asian games medallist, Edouard Valanet, proved he was a valuable addition to the 2026/27 BATTS squad, rounding off his debut weekend with two victories. The first coming 14-12 in the fifth against Lorestas Trumpauskas before dispatching Larry Trumpauskas 3-0. Abraham Sellado also took a 14-12 in the fifth victory over Shaquille Webb-Dixon, a reverse to last years fixture where Webb-Dixon took the win deuce in the fifth at Fusion. Isaac Kingham also inflicted a 3-2 defeat for Webb-Dixon, coming from 2-1 behind to take the match. 

eBaTT rounded off their opening weekend with a 7-0 win of their own over Nottingham TTC who found the going tough on their first weekend in the Premier Division. Only two matches were not closed out 3-0 for eBaTT and both of those were Kacper Piwowar’s victories, as he defeated Adam Fuzes 3-1, followed by a 3-2 win over James Hobson. 

Alcayde remained undefeated throughout his BCL Premier debut to help DHS Hurricane Kingsway to their third win on their Premier debut to put them third in the table. Gary Dodd also completed a maximum in the 5-2 victory over Ormeau. The first of his two victories coming 13-11 in the fifth against Oriol Monzo, before he added another deuce in the fifth classic to his tally where he beat European Youth Championships medallist Peadar Sheridan 12-10 in the decider. Sheridan had his own deuce in the fifth triumph as he beat Joe Sawyer 13-11 in the fifth. Adam Faulkner also overcame Hurricane’s Joe Sawyer 3-2.  

BATTS sit top of the table after weekend 1, their 7-0 dominant displays seeing them lead thanks to a greater ‘sets for’ over Ormesby TTC, who also recorded a perfect start to the 2026/27 season with four wins from four. They will be chased by DHS Hurricane Kingsway, who won three of their four opening clashes and will face BATTS in Round 6 on the second weekend of action. eBaTT and Fusion both sit on eight points as they both recorded two victories. Ormeau sit just behind in 6th, followed by both sides yet to find a victory; North Ayrshire, despite them having a number of 4-3 losses, and also Nottingham TTC who only managed to record one match victory over the weekend – James Hobson over Gary Dodd.

The Senior BCL season will continue on Saturday 5 December when the action heads to North Ayrshire, Scotland for the second instalment of the 2026/27 season, where there will be some fixtures between the teams at either end of the table.
