Stuti Kashyap won three categories, including Women’s Singles, and Shaquille Webb-Dixon retained his Men’s Open Singles title at a bustling Sussex Senior 4*.

More than 140 competitors were in action at the K2 venue in Crawley, with Banded events held on Saturday and Men’s Open Singles, Women’s Singles, Under-21, Restricted and Veteran categories on Sunday.

Shaquille Webb-Dixon retained the title he won last year in the Men’s Open Singles, and it was a dominant display as he did not drop a game, culminating in a 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 11-1) victory over Victor Guang Shi in the final.

In the top half of the draw, Guang Shi had a real old tussle with Gabriel Achampong in the semi-finals before getting through 3-2 (12-14, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 11-6). He also had a prolonged quarter-final against Israel Awolaja, which he won 3-2 (12-10, 7-11, 3-11, 11-8, 11-7).

Achampong, meanwhile, had knocked out top seed Larry Trumpauskas in the last 16, by a 3-2 (12-14, 11-4, 11-8, 7-11, 11-3) scoreline.

Webb-Dixon came through the bottom half, his unblemished record including a 3-0 (11-2, 11-7, 11-7) victory over second seed Umair Mauthoor in the semi-finals.

Stuti Kashyap took the Women’s Singles, though only after withstanding a fightback by Hannah Silcock as USA took on Jersey in the final.

It was a win for the stars and stripes as fifth seed Kashyap took it by a 3-2 (11-7, 12-10, 9-11, 9-11, 11-9) scoreline.

Both semi-finals were decided in three, Kashyap overcoming top seed Patricia Ianau (11-4, 11-7, 12-10) and second seed Silcock beating Meige Wang (6, 7, 8).

Kashyap also claimed the Under-21 Women’s title, and it was Silcock who again reached the final only to lose out.

The defeated semi-finalists were two Saskias – Key lost to Silcock and Svoboda missed out to Kashyap.

The Under-21 Men’s Open was won by Sinan Surensoy, who beat Marcel Ndongala 3-0 (11-1, 11-3, 11-4) in the final.

Ndongala beat Janak Shah in the semi-finals, while Surensoy overcame Ryan Goodier.

Peter Stahlman took the Veteran Singles with victory over Diccon Gray in the final.

Gray had earlier got past Jimmy Walsh in the semis – Walsh beat Semi Idowu 3-2 (10-12, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9) in the first round and was then the beneficiary of Victor Guang Shi’s retirement in the quarters. The other semi-finalist was Paul Carter, who lost out to Stahlman.

Luke Greenfield was the winner of the Restricted Singles, beating Hassan El Kaakour 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 11-7) in the final. Greenfield’s semi-final opponent was Rayan Ansari, while El Kaakour beat Ethan Walsh.

Banded Competitions

Nahom Asgedom won the Men’s Open Band 1 title, though no final was able to take place as opponent Rikuto Morota picked up and injury and was unable to play.

Seventh seed Morota’s run to the final included knocking out top-ranked Umair Mauthoor 3-1 (11-8, 11-5, 14-16, 11-9) in the quarter-finals and Sinan Surensoy 3-0 (12-10, 11-4, 13-11) in the semi-finals.

Asgedom, who was sixth seed, beat second seed Lorestas Trumpauskas 3-0 (11-7, 11-7, 12-10) in the quarter-finals and Pablo Ramirez Rioja, 3-1 (11-6, 11-6, 6-11, 11-2) in the semis.

Stuti Kashyap won the first of her weekend titles in Women’s Band 1, where she overcame Patricia Ianau 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-8) in the final.

The defeated semi-finalists were Sara Williams, who lost out to Ianau, and Tiana Dennison, who was defeated by Kashyap.

Romaine Stewart was the winner of Men’s Open Band 2, as the top seed overcame second-ranked Sinan Surensoy 3-1 (7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-8) in the final.

The champion beat Jake Davidson 3-0 (6, 5, 5) in the last four, while Surensoy got past Sammy Kaye 3-1 (6-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-9).

Surensoy had a good win in the last 16, beating fellow England youngster Pablo Ramirez Rioja 3-2 (11-8, 9-11, 13-11, 12-14, 11-6).

Larissa Titievskaja won the Women’s Band 2 final, edging a close four-game match against Sara Williams 3-1 (11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 11-6).

The champion needed four games in the semi-finals too, where she saw off Lois Perryman 3-1 (11-9, 11-9, 5-11, 13-11), while Williams defeated Aneta Kula in three straight (3, 5, 5).

Rishaan Sawant and Janak Shah played out a thriller in the Men’s Open Band 3 final, the former eventually winning it 3-2 (11-8, 11-6, 12-14, 6-11, 11-9) after surviving Shah’s fightback.

Sawant beat Adedapo Onaromaya in three straight in the semi-finals, while Shah defeated Doniyor Makhkamov in four.

Earlier in Shah’s run, he battled past second seed Jaroslaw Chrzanowski 3-2 (6-11, 11-9, 12-10, 3-11, 11-7) in the last 16 and Hassan Damji 3-2 (6-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7) in the quarter-finals.

Sawant also had a battle in the last 16, emerging with a 3-2 (11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 8-11, 18-16) win over Angad Saggu.

Nicola Duke ended the hopes of the returning former England Junior Kate Cheer in the Women’s Band 3 semi-finals, with a 3-1 (11-9, 12-14, 11-6, 11-4) victory.

Duke then went on to take the title with a 3-0 (11-4, 11-9, 11-2) win over Molly Brown in the final. Brown had defeated Lois Perryman 3-1 (9-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-4) in the semi-finals.

Brighton’s Ryan Goodier kept the Men’s Open Band 4 title in Sussex, triumphing 3-0 (8, 7, 8) over Harvey Sandwell in the final.

Goodier had defeated Scott Dawtrey 3-1 (11-2, 11-13, 11-7, 11-5) in the semi-finals, while Sandwell overcame Joe Britnell 3-0 (11-4, 11-8, 11-7).

Nema Saxena was the victor in Women’s Band 4, as she beat Saskia Svoboda 3-0 (11-9, 11-7, 11-5) in the final.

In the semis, Saxena knocked out Chloe Ireland 3-1 (13-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-3), while Svoboda battled past Emily Shone 3-2 (13-11, 8-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-7).

James Roberts beat Chun Yin Darren Wu in four close games to take the Men’s Open Band 5 top prize – the scoreline was 3-1 (12-10, 12-14, 11-8, 11-9).

Wu beat Mateusz Niedielak in the semi-finals, while Roberts defeated Joseph Chapman.

Back in the first round, Roberts was set up for a nice finish against Group 1 winner Rupert Bole, but Bole had to retire in the fifth through injury, having led 1-0 and trailed 2-1 earlier in the match before forcing a decider.

Charlie Lance won Men’s Open Band 6, inflicting the first of two final defeats on the day for Chun Yin Darren Wu – it was 3-0 (11-3, 11-6, 11-5) in the final.

As would later be repeated in Band 5, Wu defeated Joseph Chapman in the semi-finals (9-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-5), while it was 3-0 (6, 3, 8) for Lance against Stephen Cathrew Ashby.
