The road to the Nationals starts here for youngsters competing at the Cleveland Cadet & Junior 4* this weekend.

The event at Middlesbrough Sports Village has attracted a strong entry, with boys’ open and girls’ singles events at Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19s.

Once again, the series of Cadet and Junior 4* events around the country during the 2026/27 season will provide a route to the Mark Bates Ltd Nationals, as they have since 2021. Players in the Under-15 and Under-19 categories will be playing for points which will appear on the qualifying leaderboards for those age groups after the event.

Cleveland also has the added dimension of boys’ open and girls’ team events in both Cadet and Junior categories.

Cleveland is the first 4* of the year for the younger age groups, with entries now open for four more:

• 24-25 October: Cliffedale Chandlers 4* (closing date 25 September)
• 14-15 November: Blackpool 4* (closing date 14 October)
• 12-13 December: Cambridge 4* (closing date 31 October)
• 16-17 January: Joola Plymouth 4* (closing date 17 December)
