Ryan, who is Chair of Coventry TTA and Phoenix TTC, is aiming to play a staggering 100,000 shots in less than a week.
Through a combination of challenge matches against various opponents, multiball drills and playing against a robot, he has just six days, starting on 27 July, to clock up the huge target.
He’s even spending his birthday on 1 August – the final day of the challenge when he aims to reach his goal – on the table.
To put it into context, a typical five-game match in which each game ends 11-9 would feature around 300 shots. Ryan will have to play the equivalent of 333 such matches.
Driving him on is attempt to raise £10,000 to be split between five good causes:
- 40% to Phoenix Table Tennis Club
- 15% to Cancer Research
- 15% to Coventry Table Tennis Association (TTA)
- 15% to Leamington TTA
- 15% to Warwickshire TTA
“Table tennis has been a huge part of my life,” says Ryan. “I was fortunate to be supported by incredible people, clubs, and associations who gave their time, energy, and even personal funds so players like me could grow.
“Now it’s my turn to give back to current and future players so they can enjoy the same opportunities – and hopefully even more – than I had.
“Cancer also touches so many lives, whether personally or through family and friends. We all know someone facing it right now, and sport can sometimes offer a much‑needed escape, even if only for a few hours.”

Ryan added: “Your donation, big or small, will directly support Cancer Research and help table tennis players access quality affordable sport opportunities that once helped me.”
