Finchingfield’s double-pronged attack in the Braintree Table Tennis League continued in week four when their two teams both scored thumping wins.
The A team in division two took all 10 sets off Black Notley C while the B team dropped only one set against Notley’s I team in division three.
It leaves the B team clear at the top of their division with the A team only one point off the top with a match in hand.
John Barrett, Lucien Nolan-Bradford and Casey Mansfield were on duty for the A team, whose 10-0 was hard earned.
Mansfield was stretched to 11-9 in the fifth game by Jamie Brooks, who took Nolan-Bradford even closer, winning the first two games and only losing the third and fourth at deuce.
For the B team, Ray Bradford and Peter Dacey were unbeaten although Dacey was twice balanced on the edge of the cliff. Like Nolan-Bradford, he lost the first two games to both Barbara Turner and Mike Smith and scraped home by two points in the third before winning the final two. Notley I’s point came from a good win by Turner over John Dennison.
Sudbury Strollers are one point ahead of Finchingfield A in division two but they lost their unbeaten record in a 7-3 defeat to Netts D.
Juniors JJ Calisin and James Howard won twice but it was veteran campaigner Rupesh Harding who was the only one to defeat Ken Lewis.
Notley D are level on points with Finchingfield following a 9-1 win over their own E team.
Rayne F hold on to fourth place despite a 6-4 defeat at the hands of Yeldham A. Roy Hooper won three, Lorraine Burgess two and they took the doubles between them.
Notley B could only field two players against Rayne E, which was not enough to stave off a 6-4 defeat. Neil Freeman and Rev Matthews won twice.
Notley F are four points behind Finchingfield B in division three after a 10-0 win over Netts E, a scoreline matched by Sudbury Drifters at Rayne H.
In division one, Maria Boulton and Paul Lucas made their first appearances of the season for Rayne A and both remained undefeated in a 9-1 win over their own B team. Victor Chan took the B team’s one set.
Netts A’s 7-3 win over Liberal B included a predictable three sets from Paul Davison but less predictable was the fact that JJ Calisin, playing up from division two, outscored older brother Charles two to one.
Sudbury Wanderers unveiled new signing Emiliano Perez, who immediately showed his worth by winning two out of two in a 6-4 win against Liberal A, including a victory over Brandon Crouchman.
