Table Tennis England is delighted to announce the appointment of John Murphy as National Coach. He will work across the Junior and Senior England squads and takes up his position next month.

An Irish national, John joins from Table Tennis Australia, where he has reinvigorated their performance programme, resulting in Australia currently boasting four men and three women inside the respective top 100 world rankings.

They also won six medals at last year’s Commonwealth Games – one gold, three silver and two bronze.

Table Tennis England’s Head of Performance Development, Gavin Evans, said: “John has a wealth of experience and knowledge on the world stage and has done amazing work with Table Tennis Ireland and Table Tennis Australia where he has been incredibly successful in building the pathway.

“He’s very keen to play his part in the development of our system and the ambitions set out in Table Tennis United.”

John Murphy said: “It is an honour to be given the opportunity to come on board with Table Tennis England. I am really looking forward to the journey ahead and am super motivated to start working with the players.”

The appointment is another key role in the rebuilding of the performance pathway, following on from Gavin Evans taking up the reins and Emma Vickers becoming Head of Pathway Development. Further recruitment to the coaching team is currently under way.
