The Milton Keynes Mayor’s Parlour will be home to a piece of Commonwealth Games history this year, thanks to a special loan from Table Tennis England. A signed Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games shirt, donated by the sport’s National Governing Body, will be on display as part of a year-long showcase celebrating the city’s sporting connections.

The initiative, led by Milton Keynes City Council, aims to bring together local sports organisations and professional clubs to highlight the area’s rich and growing sporting heritage.

Kelly Sutton, Sports Partnership Officer at Milton Keynes City Council, praised the collaboration:
“It has been great to work with National Governing Bodies and Pro Clubs located within Milton Keynes to be able to showcase such a variety of interesting items in the Mayor’s Parlour for the year ahead. Each of the items tells its own story of some of the past sporting achievements, while we work towards adding more as a City Council with our key partners. Thank you to Alan and team for providing the shirt.”

The signed shirt is a vibrant reminder of the excitement and pride that surrounded Birmingham 2022, where Team England athletes—including several table tennis stars—shone on the international stage. The display not only honours those performances but also helps connect the community with elite sport in a tangible and inspiring way.

Alan Lane, Area Manager at Table Tennis England, said:
“We’re proud to have our headquarters in Milton Keynes and to support the city’s growing reputation as a hub for sport. The Commonwealth Games shirt is a symbol of the dedication and success of our athletes, and we’re delighted to share that story with local residents through this initiative.”

The exhibition will remain in the Mayor’s Parlour throughout the Mayor’s 2025 tenure, alongside other memorabilia from Milton Keynes-based sports organisations, sparking pride and inspiration for the city’s future sporting ambitions.
