National champion Tom Jarvis is back in the Senior British League and set to make his debut for Brighton at the weekend.

Jarvis, the England No 3 and world-ranked 160, has signed for the south coast team and is straight into the squad for Saturday’s Premier Division match.

It means there is the mouth-watering prospect of a match between Jarvis and England team-mate David McBeath live on TTE.TV. Click here to watch (from 2pm Saturday).

Jarvis, who competes for Eslovs in the Swedish league and is based in Sweden, has not appeared in the British League for the best part of a decade but returns as Brighton ramp up their ambition to challenge at the top of the table.

He will line up alongside familiar figures – Finnish ace Alex Naumi, who also plays for Eslovs, and David Andersson, who is in the Swedish league with Kävlinge.

Jarvis said: “David’s one of my good friends in Sweden and he’s been playing for Brighton, and I’ve known (club founder) Tim Holtam for a long time and it’s a really interesting club.

“I spoke to Tim and he told me about the ambition they have to win this year and how me playing would help them.

“I thought it would be nice to go back and play in England, I’ve been away for so long, so I thought ‘let’s do it’.”

Jarvis will be on familiar ground when he competes at Ormesby on Saturday, having trained at and represented the club before his move to Sweden.

He said: “They’re one of the strongest teams in the league, with three strong players, so it will be a fun match to be a part of.”

One the prospect of meeting McBeath, with whom he won Men’s Doubles silver at the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships last season, he added: “We’ve played each other a lot and had a lot of tough matches against each other.

“He’s a good friend, so it’s always a bit strange. We’ll both enjoy it but obviously both want to win.”
