Three weeks into the season only six teams have 100 per cent win records in the Braintree Table Tennis League.
That distinction is shared by Sudbury Strollers in division two plus Finchingfield B and Black Notley F in division three, together with Notley A (division 1), Finchingfield A (division two) and Sudbury Drifters (division three), who only played twice in that period.
Strollers kept up their strong start with an 8-2 win over Yeldham A. John Colvin was unbeaten, the only Stroller to get the better of Roy Hooper, which he managed 11-7 in the fifth game.
Finchingfield A went one better against Notley E, missing out on a full house as a result of Peter Davenport’s win over John Barrett. Lucien Nolan-Bradford and Casey Mansfield were unbeaten.
The other matches in the division were closer affairs, a draw, two 6-4s and a 7-3. The 6-4s were intra-club encounters, Notley B beating their own D team and Rayne F getting the better of their D team.
Notley D’s Mel Cooch had one of the best nights of his career, including Neil Freeman and Rev Matthews, division one players last season, among his three victims. James Grimston was unbeaten for Rayne F.
Netts D, with Joe Meleschko unbeaten, were the 7-3 winners over Rayne E, while Jamie Brooks was likewise untroubled as Notley C shared the points with Netts C.
In division three, Finchingfield B, who had won their first two matches 10-0, stuttered slightly in dropping two sets against Notley G. Ray Bradford and Trevor Laird were unbeaten.
Seventeen-year-old Harry Wilson starred for Notley F in their 7-3 win over Netts F, where he won his three singles, two more than his dad Wayne, who had a rare off night.
Graham Turner’s three singles helped Drifters to an 8-2 win over Yeldham B.
In another Rayne v Rayne battle, the G team had little difficulty overcoming the H team 9-1, only Ian Rubens’ win over Peter Taylor disturbing their evening.
Tony McShane picked up the first treble of his career in Netts E’s draw with Notley H.
Liberal A and Netts A were the big winners in division one, 9-1 over Sudbury Nomads and Rayne C respectively.
Current and past men’s singles winners Scott Dowsett and Brandon Crouchman were unbeaten for Liberal while Joe Meleschko, playing up, and Paul Davision performed similarly for Netts.
Rayne B beat a two-man Netts B 8-2 while Sudbury Wanderers and Liberal B fought out a draw, with Adam Cuthbert unbeaten for the latter.
