Liam Pitchford will start his China Smash campaign against Edward Ly (WR 109) of Canada in the first qualifying round.

There are three qualifying rounds in total and the winner of that clash could face another Canadian as they will play the winner of the match between Eugene Wang (WR 105) and Poland’s Maciej Kubik (WR 111) – who was defeated by Tom Jarvis in the Bundesliga last week. The highest-ranked player in that area of the draw is Belgium’s Cedric Nuytinck (WR 59).

Connor Green (WR 112, pictured above) starts against Egypt’s Youssef Abdelaziz on Table 2 at 1.55pm UK time on Thursday, with the winner to meet whoever comes out on top between Lam Siu Hang (WR 98) of Hong Kong and Chinese wildcard Xu Yingbin (WR 172).

There would be a potential third qualifying round meeting with Andrej Gacina (WR 63), who Green defeated at the Europe Smash.

In the Women’s Singles, Tin-Tin Ho (WR 80) will meet Chile’s Paulina Vega (WR 149) in the first qualifying round on Table 2 at 6.20am on Friday UK time, with the winner to face either Jessica Reyes Lai (WR 140) of the USA or Audrey Zarif (WR 105) of France.

The matches are in the bottom quadrant of the draw, meaning the No 2 seed in qualifying, Xiaona Shan (WR 63) of Germany, is seeded to get through to the main draw.

Jarvis, and Anna Hursey of Wales, have been seeded into their respective main draws. The doubles draws have not yet been made – Jarvis & Green are in the Men’s Doubles competition, while Green & Ho are in the Mixed.
