Jersey’s Hannah Silcock gave the second seed and world No 55 an almighty fright at the WTT Youth Contender Lignano in Italy.
Facing Constantina Psihogios of Australia in the group stage, Silcock led 2-1 and then had two match points in the fifth before her opponent, who is world No 34 Junior and No 55 Senior, managed to prevail 3-2 (11-9, 3-11, 6-11, 11-6, 13-11).
Silcock bounced back to win her second match in the Under-19 Girls’ Singles, defeating Magdalena Scibraniova of Czechia 3-0 (14-12, 13-11, 11-6).
Silcock (WR 458 Senior), who last month beat world No 143 Debora Vivarelli of Italy at WTT Star Contender London, then beat Andrea Slamova of Czechia 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 11-6) in the last 32 before going out to top seed Edmarie Leon, the world No 30 Junior, 3-0 (11-7, 11-4, 11-7) in the last 16.
