The highest national training squad in the England performance pathway for youth players.
About the squad
The England Junior Squad is the highest national training squad in the England performance pathway for youth players. This group is made up of leading Junior and Cadet players who meet the performance standards and can clearly demonstrate the continual commitment needed to be a Junior Squad member.
For the 2021/22 season, no formal Junior Squad has been selected due to the lack of international competition and ongoing uncertainty due to the global pandemic. For this year, a wider training group of players have been identified, with individuals selected on a camp-by camp basis, with selection based on the continued commitment the players’ demonstrate to their performance development.
To support players back to training and competition, for this season, players within this squad have the opportunity to be considered for up to four international training camps and four international competitions.
Due to the lack of training and competition that has been able to take place during the pandemic has meant that funding is available from Table Tennis England to financially cover these international opportunities this season, and support players back after a significant period without training and competition.
For the 2022/23 season, following the resumption of international competition, the intention will be to set an international performance standard for players to meet in order to be considered for the Junior squad with selection policy detail available from early 2022.
