A terrific evening of top-class and exciting table tennis was held at the Island’s Table Tennis Centre at Smallbrook on 30 April, with the finals of 14 tournaments being played.

The evening was dominated by two team-mates, exciting teenager Ryan Cates and the experienced Paul Rainford (pictured above). Ryan won the Mixed Doubles event and the Juniors event, while Paul won the Over 40s and Over 60s events. They both then teamed up to win the Men’s Doubles.

They have formed a formidable partnership. Two weeks ago they won the Island’s Winter League (Ryde C team) and they both play in the Senior British Clubs League.

Inevitably, they were on opposite sides in the final match of the evening – the Men’s Singles event, with Ryan coming out the winner 3-1.

It was a great evening of table tennis enjoyed by an enthusiastic crowd of family, friends and players.
