Brighton reigned supreme this weekend as they walked away from a winner-takes-all clash against Ormesby as league champions. They played out a thriller to secure their second title in a row, resigning Ormesby to another season as runners up.
The south-coast side have been imperious throughout, to drop just 12 sets all season is a record worthy of a title. Ormesby were not far behind, but a shock loss to North Ayrshire put them on the back foot and set up a final day decider.
The match itself was an absorbing affair, played in front of 100 fans including a raucous contingent who had made the 6-hour journey from Brighton. They helped to create an atmosphere befitting the occasion. And the ride home won’t have felt as long with silverware in hand.
For Ormesby, whilst second is not not they set out to achieve they can reflect on a hugely successful season once again.
North Ayrshire continued their strong second half of the season that included a stunning victory against Ormesby. Viktor Gorman starred as they picked up their third win in their final four fixtures, including victories over two teams that have ended the season in the top three of the competition.
BATTS challenged for a place in the top two, but eventually fell away as they ended the campaign with tough ties against Brighton and Ormesby. Their final day defeat at the hands of North Ayrshire meaning they end up with a record of five from 10 this year.
There is still one game to be played. Fusion, sitting in fifth, travel to Drumchapel Glasgow who are still searching for their second win of the season. There is plenty on the line, despite the gap between the two insurmountable for Drumchapel Glasgow. With both teams in the lower echelons of the table, they will want to show the talent they possess in their squads.
